Spacious plays on the megalomania of being human. Greek architecture and sculpture form the point of departure, as in the Western world they represent the image of the perfect human and the divine that transcends everything.
The sculptures are a translation of work hierarchy and social order. The figures duel to become the best and largest pedestal, while ultimately they are just as mortal as the world around them. Everyone wants to stand on a pedestal, but who maintains the pedestals themselves?
The idea of pedestals has also gone to our heads. Through the focus on being important, we lose sight of what truly matters: a core, a character that stands on that pedestal. In this work we see the stacking of bodies and pedestals endlessly competing to become the biggest, most beautiful, and strongest, while forgetting to root deeply. In the performance, I slowly climb the sculpture to the top of the pedestals, where I display myself on someone else’s pedestal. and explore the dynamic of social existence.
